About Amherstburg

Amherstburg sits at the mouth of the Detroit River, about 25 km south of Detroit, with about 23,500 residents. Its history runs deep: Fort Malden was built here in 1796, and the town was an important Underground Railroad entry point into Canada.

Living here

The historic downtown keeps its early architecture, with shops and restaurants steps from King’s Navy Yard Park on the river. Amherstburg has wineries, a Saturday farmers’ market and festivals such as Art by the River. Holiday Beach is one of the best places in North America to watch the fall hawk migration, and Boblo Island is a private community reached by ferry.
